daenerys’ tragic story is that she tried. she saved cities and freed thousands of slaves. she brought magic back into the world. she listened to her advisors and saved all of westeros. she listened to her advisors and went north to defeat the greatest enemy ever known. she lost…. everything in doing so. lost her armies, her best friend, her longest companion, her children, her lover.. she gave everything… and in return? was cast aside as a mad queen so that the main male hero can kill her.

in the long end: if you do the right thing, you’ll still lose.

to those of you in the comments saying, ‘This was foreshadowed here and here!!’ Yes, Daenerys is a morally grey character and always has been. She has had moments of impulse and has done things that are questionable as has every other character, but it was all justified or in the name for the people. She killed Mirri Maz Durr after the women killed her husband and killed her baby - justified. She locked Doreah away because she betrayed her and helped have Irri and the rest of Daenerys’ khalassar murdered - justified. She crucified slavers because they crucified children - justified. She executed the Tarlys because rather you’d like to admit it or not, they helped kill every Tyrell soldier and actually committed treason - justified.

While she has been ruthless, but she has also shown mercy and been reasonable. She risked her Khaleesi status to help save women from beings raped. She allowed the fighting pits to return to Mereen for culture. She married someone she hated to try to unify and bring peace to Mereen. She didn’t kill Ser Jorah when his treason was brought to light, instead banished him from the city and when he came back, she forgave him for his betrayal. She sacrificed literally everything for the war with the army of the dead, her dragons, her life, her throne, her best friend, her loyal companions. For her to suddenly snap over the sound of bells and kill all those people she sacrificed everything for to save?? It’s just bad writing and nothing can justify it.

Also, it’s very convenient that just as it’s brought to light that there is a male heir who has a better claim to the throne, daenerys suddenly starts losing her supporters, all her armies, most of her dragons, and eventually her sanity while the same male heir is shown as wise, smart, level headed, and a protector of the people when that’s what Daenerys has been this whole fucking time. I just think it’s neat.
